This study tested adolescents who were admitted to an emergency room after attempting suicide. The authors found males & females were not different in age, race, or whether they were living with a parent; nor was there any difference in the method used. The large majority of all adolescents attempted suicide by a drug overdose. Males who completed suicide, however, were found to have used more lethal methods. Precipitating events were similar for all 3 groups. (VM)
