Gender differences when making an ethical decision to betray another’s confidence are discussed. This situation often arises for suicide hotline workers. Webber suggests 2 values come into conflict when making this decision: the welfare of others & respect for an individual’s autonomy. It is also suggested that respect for a client’s welfare is a feminine morality while respect for a client’s autonomy is a male morality. Thus, gender might affect the decisions of a crisis interventionist.
