This article discusses the many forms of self destructive behaviour – for example, substance abuse, alcoholism & traffic accidents. The author believes modern society has caused people to become more self-destructive. He discusses the upheaval cause by industrialization in Asian & African countries. This instability especially affects youths. The author also discusses the impact of the media. The author concurs with Durkheim’s theories of anomie. (VM)
