This chapter discusses the relationship of parasuicide to suicide. Parasuicide, unlike suicide, may actually result in a person’s increased fitness with more attention from others. A definition of parasuicide is given. Differences in social ecology between parasuicide & suicide are noted (e.g. gender, age & race rate differences between parasuicide & suicide). Follow-up studies of parasuicides are summarized. Differences between those with varying lethality of the suicide attempt are discussed.
