Surveyed US suicide prevention programs to determine the number, distribution & content of school-based curriculum programs. (n=115 identified). The total number of students & schools targeted for prevention efforts more than doubled during 1984/85-1986-87. Content of the programs was similar. 95% subscribed to the view that suicide is most commonly a response to extreme stress or pressure & could happen to anyone. Possible negative implications of this stress model of suicide are discussed.
