Elderly suicidal ideation (SI) has been related to depression, health changes & anticipation of a limited future. This study examined the Hopelessness Scale (HS) & its relation to these factors. Patients (n=120) completed the HS, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), health ratings & the Schedule for Affective Disorder & Schizophrenia (SADS). The HS, BDI & health ratings were predictive of SI as measured in the SADS. The relation of SI hopelessness, depression & health percetions are discussed.
