This chapter describes the liability of therapists for the suicide of a patient. The author describes situations where therapists are liable. He outlines the risk indicators & predisposing characteristics of suicidal people, & describes life event stresses. He provides guidelines for the management of suicidal patients, including how to “suicide proof” a psychiatric unit. If all of these areas are covered, a counsellor is not legally responsible for a suicide.
