This study examines the incidence of suicide in rural & urban northern Italy. The authors found that the suicide rate of both areas was much higher than the national figure, probably due to underreporting. They also found there were less suicides in rural areas (although there were more elderly suicides), & more men committed suicide; conversely, both men & women committed suicide in almost equal proportions in the city. Attempted suicide was less frequent in the rural zone. (VM)
