Beliefs & attitudes of adolescents, even gifted ones, are often based upon teen folk lore, with the most credence placed upon peer statements. This is true despite research which found that high achievers’ opinions & beliefs about suicide were similar to those of professionals. Some evidence suggests a link between high ability & suicide. Is the folk-lore influencing adolescents, sometimes propelling them toward self-destructive behavior, perceived differently by gifted adolescents?
