Data is from ME’s reports of 246 completed suicides, age 50+. With increasing age, more suiciders were widowed, significantly fewer were single, separated or divorced. Violent methods of suicide were more prevalent, alcohol use & psychiatric histories less common with aging. Physical illness & loss became the most common definable precipitants, while job, financial & family/relationship problems became less frequent. Indications for research & intervention in primary care settings are discussed.
