The Navajo are the largest tribe in the continental US. Social & economic changes have accrued at a rapid rate during this century. This article reviews health, disease and health care among the present day Navajo. Mortality rates from accidents & suicide are disproportionately high & have as their causes longstanding social & behavioral problems. Although there has a sharp delince in morbidity & mortality from infectious diseases, there are still major environmental health problems.
