Abstract
Parenthood Experience and the Adolescent’s Transition to Young Adulthood: Self Psychological Perspectives
Weissman S H~~et al
Outlines the processes whereby parents, adolescents, & young adult offspring can sustain & reshape their interdependence, their selfobject needs for each other, & the achievement of alliances with parents. Presents a review of newly beginning research to support this perspective, & includes clinical problems that manifest when transformations are interrupted because the selfobject status of children & parents cannot conform to the developing tasks of young adulthood.
