In this study, 75 depressed suicidal patients were compared with 50 depressed non-suicidal controls. The 6 best discriminating variables were: male sex, suicidal behaviour at index admission & during index hospitalization, number of previous psychiatric hospitalizations, & broken homes. The authors conclude these factors should be taken into account when estimating suicidal danger in all types of depressed inpatients. (VM)
