Reviews general aspects & problems of aftercare of patients who have attempted suicide & discusses non-compliance as a central problem of post-discharge aftercare. Results of an empirical study of different aftercare strategies for suicide attempters are presented. Findings indicate that aftercare is complex & there is no clear empirical evidence that more extensive strategies of aftercare are more successful in preventing further suicidal behavior. 27 refs.
