Use of the Scan Statistic to Detect Time-Space Clustering

Proposes a test for time-space clustering based on the scan statistic, which allows the calculation of measures of attributable risk & effect size. Data concerning adolescent suicide are used to illustrate the procedure. Tables & asymptotic formulas given for the mean & variance of the proposed statistic are expected to be useful in the evaluation of both clustering in time & in time-space. 12 refs.
