A Comparative Clinical Trial of Fluoxetine, Mianserin and Placebo in Depressed Outpatients

This study compared fluoxetine with mianserin & placebo in 52 depressed outpatients. Findings included: significantly more patients on fluoxetine improved than those on placebo; for mianserin, no significant differences were found with either fluoxetine & placebo; suicidal feelings were reduced to a greater degree on fluoxetine than on mianserin & placebo; fluoxetine induced weight loss, but mianserin induced weight gain, & side effects for fluoxetine were nausea & vomiting.
