Wasserman D~~Cullberg J
40 suicide attempt patients, their significant others & treatment personnel were interviewed. Patients were divided into neurosis, abuse, & psychosis groups. 21 patients had lost contact with 1 or both parents due to death, divorce or separation. 19 patients’ parents &/or siblings had attempted &/or completed suicide. Alcohol abuse was greatest in the homes of the abuse group. The role of identifying with the dead & suicidal parent in prompting suicidal actions in adults is discussed. (CM)
