Chapter
Psychodynamic Strategies With Outpatients (IN: Suicide Theory and Clinical Aspects, ed. by L D Hankoff and B Einsidler)
Halperin D A
This chapter attempts to define & delimit the psychotherapeutic strategies for dealing with suicidal patients. The therapist working with a patient persistently verbalizing suicidal ideation must define for himself, & for his patient, strategic psychodynamic issues & set appropriate limits. The questions of availability, accessibility, the use of the telephone, countertransference problems, & the contract are raised in the context of helping the patient. (CM)
