Chapter
The Gifted (IN: Suicide Theory and Clinical Aspects, ed. by L D Hankoff and B Einsidler)
Shneidman E S
This chapter focuses on suicide among Caucasian males of superior intellect. The author’s 2 main assertions are that discernible early prodromal clues to adult suicide may be found in longitudinal case history data & that it is useful to conceptualize these premonitory clues in terms of perturbation & lethality. The overall clinical impression is that the father starts the life course of suicide, school & work exacerbate it, & the wife can save him from it. (CM)
