In this introductory chapter the author gives illustrations of death as experienced by adolescents taken from formal research & everyday life. He discusses 2 unresolved questions: “I die, therefore I am” & “Living for what? Dying for what?” the answers to which may lead to a better understanding of adolescence & death. He suggests that there are no theories special to death or adolescence contributing to understanding as we would like to believe. (CM)
