18,571 adults were interviewed about suicidal ideation & attempted suicide. 21.7% said they had thought about suicide, 7.1% said they wanted to die, 10.2% thought about committing suicide, & 2.9% had attempted suicide. Females, persons 25-44 years, separated of divorced individuals, whites, those with low socio-economic status, & those who had a diagnosis of a psychiatric disorder were most likely to either think about or attempt suicide.
