The author presents the history of the Samaritans & the 7 principles & 7 practices of standards under which the U.S. branches operate. The primary purpose of the branches is to provide a 24-hour crisis line for the lonely, despairing & suicidal using a method called “befriending”. The programs of 7 branches are described.
