Preventing Suicide by Improving the Competency of Caregivers (IN: Report of the Secretary’s Task Force on Youth Suicide. Volume 3: Prevention and Interventions in Youth Suicide)
Tanney B L
All caregivers should be competent in intervening with persons-at-risk for suicidal behavior. The core tasks of recognition, risk taking, & resource referral define the gatekeeper’s role. There is a need for better learning & training experiences in suicide. The Foundation Workshop, designed to improve gatekeeping skills, is described. The author concludes that a large-scale training program is a rational & workable suicide prevention strategy. (CM)
