The development of general suicide prevention efforts in the U.S. & beyond is reviewed, with emphasis on the lack of attention to youth suicide until recent years. Training programs are reviewed but few were found specific to youth. A survey of U.S. prevention & intervention programs is presented, detailing the types of programs which could be identified. Special therapy needs of adolescents are considered & recommendations for future programs are outlined. (CM)
