In June 1986, a conference was held in Oakland, California to review the current knowledge of suicide prevention & intervention. The conference addressed issues such as community health & social services, the role of volunteers in suicide prevention, intervention for special populations, & early detection & treatment for suicidal adolescents. The participants believe that the precursors to suicide can be treated so that potential suicides can be redirected to life sustaining choices. (CM)
