This study analyzed changes in sex-specific suicide rates in Canada, 1971-1985. A significant increase in the male-to-female ratio of rates was observed due to increasing male rates & decreasing female rates. Similar changes in both the U.S. & the major European countries was noted, but contrasts with a pattern of converging rates throughout North America & much of Europe prior to 1970. (CM)
