The study examined a wide range of demographic, clinical, & circumstantial variables on 172 outpatient suicides. The suicide rate among psychiatric outpatients is 8 to 10 times higher than among the general population. Half the victims lived alone or in a boarding home or hotel & only 1/3 attended a day/vocation program.
