A study was conducted to examine gender differences in suicide by firearms among the elderly. A comparison of Virginia & the U.S. showed the same pattern of suicide methods except that more Virginians of both sexes used firearms. In Virginia males were more likely than females to use a gun to complete suicide. Two case analyses are presented as well as a relevant literature review. (CM)
