A Chicago conference with the theme “The Art of Dying” was held. Views expressed included: 2/3 of the population & about 1/2 of the doctors polled support a patient’s right to physician aid-in-dying, a patient’s rights must be respected provided 4 conditions are fulfilled, courts are not the place for aid-in-dying decisions, physician aid-in-dying is the ultimate humanitarian aim. With euthanasia, personal ethics & the law are incongruent. Euthanasia in Holland & the U.S. was also compared. (CM)
