Describes the case of a severe psychiatric reaction to a positive clinical diagnosis of Huntington disease in a woman inher 30s who was enrolled in a predictive testing program & who had a history of psychiatric illness & hospitalizations. The subject become depressed & suicidal but was successfully treated with imipramine. Biological, psych & situational factors in the subjects’ reaction to the diagnois are discussed. The need for readily available & ongoing counseling services is noted.
