The relation btwn the strength of an individ’s intent to commit suicide & the lethality of any attempt has been controversial. Some studies suggest a positive correlation while others report no connection. In this study 60 patients were examined shortly after a suicide attempt. Results reveal that both depression & impulsivity correlate positively with the strength of intent but there appears to be almost no correlation in the study group btwn measures of intent & seriousness of the attempt.
