de Castro E F~~Pimenta F~~Martins I
Parallels are shown btwn progress towards female (F) independ. & inc. in F suicide & dec. in M/F suicide ratio. High rates occur among professional Fs in urban areas with significant correlations btwn suicide & deaths by cirrhosis. It is concluded that alcoholism often leads to suicide; in Fs taboos about alcoholism & suicide explain a higher incidence among culturally freer professional groups. F independ. will cause a rise in alcoholism which with other factors will cause an inc. in F suicide.
