Evaluation of Psychiatric Emergency Consultations in the Care of Self-poisoned Patients by Primary Physicians in a General Hospital

Presents research illustrating opinions of referring primary physicians concerning emergency psychiatric consultations for attempted suicides treated in Helsinki. Results, which were collected over a 1-month period & compared with all other emergency psychiatric consultations, showed that 87% of primary physicians were satisfied with the consultations & considered psychiatric consultations for attempted suicides necessary. Findings support efforts to arrange consultation for every attempt.
