Presents a study which compared differences in reason for consultation, diagnostic impressions, & treatment plans for 2 groups of patients, those under age 60 & those 60 & over. Those over 60 were referred significantly more often for agitation & competency assessment, & significantly less often for suicide ideation or attempts. Alcoholism & personality disorders were more often diagnosed in younger patients. Implications for mental health workers are discussed, including the need for training.
