Suicidal Behavior as a Response to Life Circumstances (IN: Children Who Don’t Want to Live: Understanding and Treating the Suicidal Child)
Orbach I
Discusses experiences leading to child suicide & groups them into 3 categories: conditions that lead directly to self-destruction, such as parental depression; circumstances that have a destructive impact on self-esteem, depression, & hopelessness, such as child abuse, divorce, death, & family crisis; situations that heighten the atmosphere of stress but have no direct link to suicide, such as family aggression & academic pressures.
