This chapter reviews screening procedures for evaluating youths at high risk for suicide; suggests strategies for increasing their utility & outlines challenges still facing researchers in validation. Some problems are: risk profiles vary with age & developmental stage; risk depends on surrounding stressors & supports; evaluators are likely to overestimate risk; imminent danger is time-limited. An example of a potential strategy for identifying risk among youths is outlined. (KM)
