Comments on work by B P Rourke et al (see PA, vol 76:22863) on nonverbal learning disorder (NLD) as a risk factor for depression & suicide. While NLD may not specifically predispose an individual toward suicide, the individual’s vulnerability is fertile ground for development of the suicide process. The authors view suicide as an adaptive process.
