120 patients entering a pychiatric hospital were assigned to either standard hospital care & aftercare, or to experimental community treatment. Results indicated that community treatment achieved superior clinical outcome & was considered by patients & relatives to be significantly more satisfactory than standard hospital care. However, it was not as effective in reducing the number of suicide threats & attempts. 15 refs.
