Abstract
Alcohol-related Psychiatric Emergencies: Their Characteristics and Care at a Walk-in Clinic
Mendelson E F
50 cases (aged 23-75 years) attending a walk-in psychiatric emergency clinic with alcohol-related problems were studied retrospectively over a 4-week period. Results confirm that this group represented a sizeable load on the clinic – about 15% of all assessments. Other psychiatric problems were common, and many patients had recently attempted or threatened suicide.
