Decline in Mortality Among Young Americans During the 20th Century: Prospects for Reaching National Mortality Reduction Goals for 1990

Changes in mortality rates in the U.S. are examined for persons less than 25 years of age during the 20th century, with a particular focus on the decade 1975-1984. Progress in reducing death rates was found to have slowed, particularly in this decade & is especially true for infant mortality & death from violent causes (including suicide) occurring among adolescents & young adults. 58 refs.
