Reviews the literature on risk factors for suicide in teenagers to which prevention procedures could rationally be directed. Suicide preventive interventions (including hotline & crisis services, school based educational & screening procedures, effective treatment of suicide attempters, minimizing opportunities for suicide imitation & controlling access to the methods most often used to commit suicide) are described & evidence for their efficacy is presented.
