This article examines how a theory of suicide that focusses on learning factors leads to implications for the preventionof suicide. Not only would behavior & cognitive therapy be expected to work well, specific recommendations for preventing suicide can be made. These include reducing the publicity given to suicide & restricting the methods available for suicide. An opportunity theory of suicide is discussed & characteristics of the suicidal person are presented. (11 Refs.)
