The author examines the black youth suicide rate & discusses the reliability & validity of data collection. 3 conceptual approaches are evaluated: the sociological, the psychological & the ecological. She delineates the sociocultural factors that contribute to differential rates of suicide for black males & females, & considers assessment & early intervention strategies. (GW)
