A study concerning problem-solving appraisal & hopelessness is reviewed. It has been demonstrated that students with poor problem-solving ability & negative life stress had high levels of hopelessness & suicidal ideation. In the study under review, self-appraisal of social problem-solving, in interaction with negative life stress, significantly predicted hopelessness, even with the effects of depression statistically controlled.
