This panel presentation described varying degrees of progress toward establishing suicide prevention in the services. Three steps to be taken toward a prevention program would include: a population-based data system; an evaluation component to review the various efforts; and a formal research effort to support long-term analysis of the impact of suicide and suicide attempts on the military community, as well as military policies on suicidal individuals.
