30 years ago, injury rates in the nursing service departments were higher than in the rest of the professional care division. A 1974 study describes leading causes of injury & illness resulting in lost time among RN’s. Mortality patterns of Wisconsin RN’s (1963-1977) showed that the strongest association of cause of death was suicide, which was 50% higher than in other groups. 4 types of health hazards are described: biological, chemical, physical, & psychosocial.
