This paper describes the first phase of a suicide research project conducted at the Calgary Remand Centre for the development of a tool for screening potentially suicidal inmates. The suicide checklist is designed for use by the nursing staff of the centre to provide fast & standardized assessment of suicide risk. This paper identifies some of the issues surrounding the test’s development & presents findings from a reliability study.
