This paper reviews the specific problems & principles of managing the suicidal patient already receiving treatment. Examined is the impact of a host of factors including modern health care delivery systems, accurate diagnosis, details of developmental history, substance abuse, cerebral inefficiency, somatic and pharmacologic therapies, and proper selection of psychotherapy.
