In this summarized paper the authors discuss the programs & techniques at Yelm High School in rural Washington State which have had a significant part in the prevention of suicide in the last 4 years. These include staff cooperation, direct teaching (suicide signs, intervention techniques & referral processes presented to all grade 10 health classes), parent involvement, student needs groups e.g. Good Grief: for loss of a family member or good friend, & post suicide monitoring.(GW)
