A survey was given to 1309 students in 2 Quebec high schools. Compared to controls, the 18% who had suicidal tendencies had slightly lower academic results; higher reported rates of failure, absenteeism, & dropout; & a greater tendency to have discipline problems mentioned in school records. Depression scores were elevated proportionately with suicidal tendencies (ideation through multiple attempts). Root causes & choice of confidant are mentioned, with family & friends figuring prominantly. RM
